I enjoy the children's book Cinquains written by StanleyT. Crawford. I think it's well written and perfect for elementary school children.

It's useful for thought provoking conversation for so many different levels of education. From simplistic weather descriptions as the section WINTER, discussing the play and the feel of the season/5. Over cinquains by the author are included dating from - In the spirit of the American cinquain created by Adelaide Crapsey in the early 20th century, the author has decided to play loose with the syllable/stress format of this poetic form.5/5(1).

The word cinquain can refer to two different things. Historically, it referred to any stanza of five lines written in any type of verse. More recently, cinquain has come to refer to particular types of five-line poems that have precisely defined features, such as their meter or the number of syllables they contain in each line.

I don’t always succeed in trimming enough, but short forms have helped me hone and weed out more of the frill. One of my favorite short forms is the American Cinquain, invented by Adelaide Crapsey.

Though there are other ways to write cinquains, I would like focus on the syllable count “” format, for this discussion. In its simplest dictionary definition, a cinquain is a poem of five lines. Crapsey’s cinquain was more specific, a poem of five lines with a specific syllable count ofusually iambic.

The ideal cinquain for Crapsey was one that worked up to a turn or climax, and then fell back. Cinquain Graphic Organizer A cinquain is a five-line poem that describes a person, place, or thing.

A collection of poems, titled Verse, was published in and included 28 cinquains. Cinquains are particularly vivid in their imagery and are meant to convey a certain mood or emotion. A cinquain is an example of shape poetry.

Because of the exact number of words required for each line of this poem, a unique, symmetrical shape is created from interesting, descriptive words.

Because of the exact number of words required for each line of this poem, a unique, symmetrical shape is created from interesting, descriptive words. Though they are just five lines long, the best cinquains tell a small story.

Instead of just having descriptive words, they may also have an action (something happening), a feeling caused by the action, and a conclusion or ending. You can learn to write cinquains by following these few simple steps: Decide what you would like to write about.

The book "Out of my mind" by Sharon M. Draper has changed my view of how people view others. This book is the story of a girl who was born unable to speak, walk, write, or anything on her own.

Ever since the day she's been born she's always been helped by someone, never able to do something on her, not even talk/5. A cinquain is a poem with five lines. Our printable shows how many words of what type should be on each line.

I also have seen some cinquains count syllables like a haiku so you could try that version if you want even more of a challenge for your talented writers.

Cinquain (pronounced "cin-kain") is a five-line poetic form, using a wavelike word count of two-four-six-eight-two. In this lesson, sample cinquains are read aloud as a class, allowing students to familiarize themselves with the form. Students then write simple cinquain of their own as a follow-up to a subject they have been exploring in class.
